HMD MOTORSPORTS HAS GOALS SET HIGH AS THEY HEAD TO BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK

After a nine week break in the 2022 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship season schedule, HMD Motorsports is back for the second race of the season at Barber Motorsports Park this weekend, April 29-May 1. After experiencing the tight turns and barriers of the St. Petersburg street course, Barber Motorsports Park will challenge drivers in a new way with 15 turns along the 2.3-mile permanent road course.

Returning with all five entries from St. Petersburg, Christian Bogle, Linus Lundqvist, Manuel Sulaiman and Danial Frost return in the HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing (DCR w/ HMD) entries and Benjamin Pedersen in the Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports (GRG w/ HMD) #24 machine.

As a strong team at Barber Motorsports Park historically in the past, HMD Motorsports is eager to see what they can accomplish this weekend. In 2021, HMD swept the weekend at the Leeds, Alabama facility, claiming first and second place finishes in both races. Linus Lundqvist took home his first win and second place finish, while Benjamin Pedersen claimed his first podium finish in the first race of the season. David Malukas, now racing for Dale Coyne Racing with HMD Motorsports (DCR w/ HMD) in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES took home the win in race two. On top of a rigorous off-season test program, HMD returned to Barber Motorsports Park last week with all five drivers for a private test.

Danial Frost and Christian Bogle are no strangers to Barber Motorsports Park, both competing in the Indy Lights series events last season. Both drivers, however, competed with different teams and will be combining their experience with the HMD Motorsports dominance this weekend. Last year, Frost had a best finish of seventh and Bogle took home two top-ten finishes at Barber Motorsports Park. Manuel Sulaiman, who moved up to Indy Lights part way through last season, competed at Barber in Indy Pro 2000 last season and finished eighth. All three drivers showed great pace on the April 18 test and will look to carry that momentum into the race this weekend.

David Malukas will also be joining the weekend in the #18 Dale Coyne Racing with HMD Motorsports Honda for his fourth NTT INDYCAR SERIES start. After two street courses (St. Petersburg and Long Beach) and an oval (Texas Motor Speedway), this will be the first permanent road course event of the season. In years past, Malukas has found success at Barber Motorsports Park, finishing on the podium in Indy Pro 2000 (2018), FR Americas (2020) and Indy Lights (2021). In 2021, Malukas kicked off his season with his first of seven wins at Barber Motorsports Park.

Featured side-by-side this weekend, Indy Lights will follow the NTT INDYCAR SERIES race weekend format with one practice on Friday and final practice and qualifying on Saturday. The Indy Lights Grand Prix of Alabama will take place on Sunday just prior to the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.
