As the 2023 season reaches the mid-way point of the season, HMD Motorsports is gearing up for the seventh round of the INDY NXT by Firestone championship and the ninth round of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES this weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Ohio and the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. Back-to-back all weekend long, both series will take to the legendary 13-turn circuit this Independence Day weekend.
Six races in, HMD Motorsports has dominated the INDY NXT season so far with five wins from four different drivers. In the last round at Road America, Nolan Siegel became the first repeat winner of the season and went on to take over the championship with a 40-point lead over teammate Christian Rasmussen. Further back in the Championship, the points battle remains close with most positions separated by fewer than five points. With eight rounds remaining, consistent results are vital and every point counts.
While Mid-Ohio has typically been a weaker track for HMD Motorsports in years past, performance results from the team’s current lineup of drivers will bring high expectations to this weekend’s race. While HMD Motorsports has yet to win on the 2.258-mile track, Danial Frost has helped HMD score two of their five podium results at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in recent years with the last victory coming at the circuit in the wet a few years ago.
Down one driver this weekend, HMD Motorsports will field eight drivers including Championship leader Nolan Siegel, this season’s race winners Christian Rasmussen, Danial Frost and Reece Gold, 2023 podium finishers Kyffin Simpson and Ernie Francis Jr., Christian Bogle and part-time driver Josh Pierson.
David Malukas will continue to represent HMD Motorsports in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in his #18 Dale Coyne Racing with HMD Motorsports entry.
Leading into the long holiday weekend, INDY NXT by Firestone will continue to preview the NTT INDYCAR SERIES on track all weekend long with a single practice session on Friday and a second practice on Saturday morning before qualifying later that afternoon in preparation for Sunday’s races.
