HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing is headed to Iowa Speedway this weekend, July 22-24. With both the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship and the NTT INDYCAR SERIES competing back-to-back once again, HMD Motorsports will enter three races between the two series with Indy Lights racing on Saturday and INDYCAR completing their only double-header weekend of the year with races on both Saturday and Sunday.
Announced earlier this week, HMD Motorsports will be entering six Indy Lights drivers for the first time with the addition of Kyffin Simpson, who will be joining Linus Lundqvist, Danial Frost, Benjamin Pedersen (Global Racing Group with HMD), Christian Bogle, and Antonio Serravalle.
As this first of two oval events this season, HMD Motorsports has a leg up over the competition as five of the seven drivers to ever race on an oval in Indy Lights are with HMD Motorsports. Last season, HMD had a clean sweep as David Malukas won both oval events of the season. Benjamin Pedersen also finished on the podium in both oval races. Prior to this weekend, HMD Motorsports also took part in the series test at Iowa Speedway four weeks ago.
As the Indy Lights season carries on, HMD Motorsports and Linus Lundqvist maintain a substantial 87-point lead in the Drivers’ Championship.
Part of a full festival weekend, Indy Lights will take to the track between the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and concerts by Tim McGraw and Florida Georgia Line on Saturday. With only three on-track sessions, the Indy Lights drivers will have to get up-to-speed quickly with only one 50-minute practice session on Friday prior to qualifying on Saturday morning and the 75-lap race Saturday afternoon.
David Malukas will also be running his #18 Dale Coyne Racing with HMD Motorsports Honda in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES double-header weekend. As the third oval event weekend, Malukas has proven to be a strong oval racer with finishes of eleventh and sixteenth at the two previous events and was fast in nearly every Indianapolis 500 on track session.
The NTT INDYCAR SERIES will complete one practice session on Friday with qualifying on Saturday morning. The HyVeeDeals.com 250 will take place on Saturday afternoon with the Hy-Vee Salute to Farmers 300 on Sunday.
