After contending in a partial Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship season in 2021, Manuel Sulaiman is returning to the grid with HMD Motorsports in 2022. Beginning his campaign on the Streets of St. Petersburg next weekend, Sulaiman will return to the #59 entry and join veteran teammates Danial Frost, Christian Bogle, Linus Lundqvist and Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports entry Benjamin Pedersen.
Sulaiman moved up to the Indy Lights series with HMD Motorsports part-way through the 2021 season in order begin preparing for a strong 2022 campaign. Entering the final three event weekends at Portland International Raceway, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this past year, Sulaiman earned a best finish of sixth in his first Indy Lights race while qualifying in the fourth position in his series debut.
“I am extremely happy to continue with HMD Motorsports,” expressed Sulaiman. “The Indy Lights car is a different animal but as the races went on, I gained more confidence in both myself and the car. The HMD Motorsports team worked with me to help choose the best engineer for me and with that, we have gained momentum through winter testing. Following my debut with this amazing team, I am looking forward to creating many great achievements this coming season.”
After joining the Road to Indy in 2019 in USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires, Sulaiman has quickly worked his way up the ladder over the past three seasons. With three wins and nine podiums to his name in the ladder series program, the young Mexican looks to follow in the footsteps of Pato O’Ward as he hopes to be a strong contender in 2022.
Sulaiman marks the fifth and final confirmed driver for HMD Motorsports in 2022.
