After concluding his Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires campaign last weekend at the Portland International Raceway, Nolan Siegel has joined HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing at the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca. Making his Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires debut, Siegel will pilot the #11 Menlo Ventures / GridRivals / Racing for RP branded HMD Motorsports entry.
After a successful new driver evaluation a few weeks ago at the Autobahn Country Club, Siegel was eager to make the move up the Road to Indy ladder and make his Indy Lights debut.
“We sat down as a family and evaluated the future,” explained Siegel. “The team was very pleased with my speed at the test, and I felt comfortable in the car. While we have not made any plans for 2023 yet, this is the perfect opportunity with a top-level team to evaluate my speed, experience, and knowledge in a race environment.”
“Nolan performed exceptionally well at our one and only test, and he is ready to make the move to Indy Lights,” expressed HMD Motorsports General Manager Mike Maurini. “Competing this weekend gives him a chance to gain qualifying experience, two race starts since it is a double header race weekend and interact with drivers that have been with HMD all season long. Additionally, he will learn where he needs to work harder to improve if he is to make the jump next season.”
With HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing on the verge of securing their first Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship, Siegel understands that he is entering a race-winning and potentially championship-winning program.
Siegel added, “What better opportunity could I ask for? To race alongside the names I have looked up to since I started my Indy Pro 2000 campaign and work alongside several of them in the HMD Motorsports engineering room, I know Indy Lights is the direction I want to move in the future as I look toward the NTT INDYCAR Series as my long-term goal.”
